xDai Governance Newsletter #1

Dear validators [@mariano.conti, @GriffGreen, @austintgriffith, @igorbarinov, @mgarcia ]

I have some thoughts/action items to share with you about the governance of the xDai Chain.

In the POA model, governance is the way to resolve system upgrades and /security decisions when we agree or disagree on a subject. It’s also operational part of creating ballots, casting votes, discussion with fellow and future validators.

We have some outstanding items and related discussions.

  1. BurnerWallet was voted into the consensus but his node is not up yet. We are trying to help him get in in Private Support forum. @mariano.conti @mgarcia @GriffGreen please try to help your fellow too.
  2. AlphaWallet was voted in but not finalized. I pinged them and didn’t get a reply yet. I propose to wait until they install the node. We have 20% of block time increase for a week because of the BurnerWallet node. If we have one more offline validator the delay will be 2/6 or ~ 33% increase from 5 sec
  3. Please cast your vote for Portis Portis as an xDai validator @austintgriffith you can vote too. It’s 27 hours for voting to end automatically. It’s good to show support or disagreement.

Good to know the high impact on the network after validator approval. What if we only create ballots if and only if the candidate validator has already everything related to the node in place (or at least s/he is noticed about it)? If still they don’t comply with the commitment after a couple of days then we can cast another ballot to remove them.

@igorbarinov it would be good if as part of the ballot resolution you can add the validator to the validator’s slack channel. It will be easier to coordinate any help.

we can keep approved ballot without finalization for quite a long time with no impact to the network. For POA Core validators should be approved for POA Sokol first and stay here for months participating in governance/ security of the test network before they will be onboard to POA Core.

yes, but we are moving out of Slack for the support to the forum where we have more open participation.
